ABOUT
ARTIST STATEMENT
In my work, I explore the relationship between labor and care using printmaking, collage, and installation processes. Through multisensory experiences, I intend to transport viewers into an environment where they are encouraged to question the invisible acts of labor and care that are put into what we consume and the people and places we surround ourselves with.
In my life, I have often found it difficult to process the overload of information and overconsumption normalized in our daily routines. As an attempt to combat these habits, I use precise and detail-oriented techniques, such as letterpress, to allow myself to slow down. By focusing on the moment at hand, I have the opportunity to consider the history and evolution of the materials, crafts, purposes, and communities within my practice. Additionally, I often utilize discarded materials to question the afterlife of the products and processes we consume and demonstrate how acts of care can redeem these abandoned materials and ideas.
I believe I have a responsibility both to myself and my community to create art that is accessible and encourages interaction. Therefore, it is important to me that I produce work with layered textures and narratives to create a tactile experience that engages the sense of touch. Using printed ephemera and transforming 3D spaces, I create tangible, lasting experiences that encourage reflection.
